Privacy policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

The short version

  • Steady Sums has no accounts, no adverts and no tracking.
  • Everything your child does in the app stays on their device. We never see it.
  • We don’t sell, share or rent anyone’s information, and we never will.
  • The only personal information we ever receive is an email you choose to send us.

For children

Everything you do in Steady Sums stays on your phone or tablet. Nobody else can see your answers, your stars or your name. Not even us! If you have a question about this, ask a grown-up.

1. Who we are

Steady Sums is a maths practice app made by David Connolly, a parent in the UK. In this policy, “we” and “us” means David Connolly, who is responsible for any personal information described here. You can contact us at support@steadysums.uk.

2. What the app stores, and where

To work, the app saves some information in the storage of the device it is used on. This information never leaves the device unless you choose to move it (see section 4). It includes:

We cannot see, access or recover any of this. To delete it, use Grown-ups → Reset progress, clear the app’s data in your device settings, or uninstall the app.

3. What we never do

4. Backups and the Learning Passport

In the Grown-ups area you can save a backup file of the child’s progress, or create a Learning Passport (a one-page summary of how the child likes to learn). These are made on the device and go only where you choose to save or send them, for example your own email or the child’s school. We never receive them. Once you send them somewhere, that service’s privacy policy applies.

5. Read-aloud

Steady Sums reads text aloud using the text-to-speech voice already built into your device, such as Google’s Speech Services on Android. The words being read, which are mostly maths questions and can include the child’s first name, are passed to that voice service. On most devices this happens on the device itself. If your device uses an online voice, the device maker’s privacy policy applies. You can turn read-aloud off at any time.

6. Downloading and updating the app

When the app is installed or updated, the device downloads its files from our web hosting provider (currently Netlify). Like any website, the host briefly processes technical information such as the device’s IP address to deliver the files securely. We do not use this to identify anyone.

If you install Steady Sums from Google Play, Google handles the download and may collect information under its own privacy policy. The Android app opens Steady Sums using Google Chrome, which is covered by Google’s privacy policy.

7. This website

steadysums.uk uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Fonts and images are served from our own site. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, processes standard technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect it.

8. If you email us

If you contact support@steadysums.uk, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, our lawful basis being our legitimate interest in answering your question. We delete support emails within 12 months unless you ask us to keep helping you. Please don’t include your child’s personal details unless they are needed to answer your question.

9. Children’s privacy

Steady Sums is designed for children aged about 9 to 11 and follows the principles of the UK Information Commissioner’s Age Appropriate Design Code. Privacy settings are high by default, and we do not collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, which in practice means only support emails. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

11. Changes to this policy

If Steady Sums ever changes in a way that affects privacy, for example if it starts charging or adds new features, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. We will never start collecting a child’s information without telling parents first.
